NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will start their conference slate on Saturday when they take on the McNeese Cowgirls at the University Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Privateers (7-3) are coming off a 7-0 victory on Thursday against Loyola. It was the eighth consecutive time the Privateers swept the Wolfpack on the court.
Lina Hohnhold made her return in doubles after having last played on Feb. 19. Hohnhold paired up with Salma Abdelrhaim for the first time this season for a 6-1 victory. In doubles, Hohnhold is 6-1 in total on the year.
Since returning,
Lea Alguacil is 4-0 in doubles, all with
Mar Gendra. In singles, Alguacil has gone 2-2 thus far on the season.
The Privateers are the defending Southland co-champions and they only lost one conference match last year. Last season against McNeese in Lake Charles, the Privateers won 5-2. New Orleans won the doubles point and got singles victories from Hohnhold, Abdelrahim, Alguacil and
Ank Vullings.
McNeese is off to a 1-8 start this year. The Cowgirls' lone victory was a 4-1 decision against Grambling. In their last outing, McNeese was defeated 7-0 by former Southland foe, Stephen F. Austin.
