NEW ORLEANS – It was a 1-1 day for the New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team as they defeated Southern Miss 3-2 to start their second day of the Tulane Classic. The Privateers lost 4-1 to host Tulane to close the weekend.

It was a razor thin margin for both sides as 12 of the 13 sets had the losing side reaching at least 17 points including the exhibition match.
The Golden Eagles picked up narrow wins at flights four and five for their two points on the match. However, the Privateers' one through three pairings all won to secure the decision for New Orleans.
Alexa Spartz and
Trinity Jackson were pushed to extra rallies in a third set but they prevailed 17-15 in the decider.
Maxine Walsh and
Hannah Volpi outlasted their opponents for a 21-17, 21-18 victory at flight two.
At flight one,
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte notched another victory at flight one when they won 21-16, 21-17 to score the win in the first match of the day for New Orleans.
TULANE-4 NEW ORLEANS-1
The Tulane Green Wave, who were receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll, were challenged in several spots but defeated the Privateers.
Walsh and Volpi won the lone point for the Privateers as they won 21-19, 21-16 at flight two.
Liz Gialanella and
Taylore Louviere pushed their opponents to three sets and were narrowly defeated 15-12 in the third. Pokorna and Esarte also maxed out the match as they went to 15-13 in the third set against the Green Wave's top pair.
Tulane won the remaining two matches in straight sets to complete the sweep of the last match. New Orleans went 2-2 for the weekend with wins against Southern Miss and Nicholls.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will head to Fort Worth next Friday and Saturday to take part in the TCU Tournament against the host, Horned Frogs, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, ULM and Arizona State.
