FINAL RESULTS
NEW ORLEANS – A pair of Privateers took home first-place finishes as the Privateer Track and Field outdoor season kicked off over the weekend at the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile.
Anna Martin won the first outdoor race of her collegiate career with a time of 2:29.40 in the women's 800. Previously she had won the 3,000 at both this year's LSU Purple Tiger, and the 2021 LSU Louisiana Invite – both indoor competitions. The Leawood, Kansas native also finished second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:56.47.
Senior
Vojislav Gvero won the hammer throw with a toss of 62.81 – the second longest throw of his career. It was his first event victory since winning the weight throw in the 2021 Samford Bulldog Invite. It was the fourth time in his collegiate career that the Serbian has won a hammer throw.
Other standouts for the Privateers included
Samantha Dyson who finished second in both the discus with a throw of 43.43 meters, and the hammer throw with a throw of 53.60 meters –
both marks were personal bests. Running in his first 100 since the 2021 Conference USA Championships, Louisiana Tech transfer
Mason Melancon finished in third place with a time of 11.41 (-2.0).
