FORT WORTH, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team avenged a loss earlier this season against the ULM Warhawks when they flipped the script by a 3-2 score in the first day of the Fight for the Fort. The Privateers later lost 5-0 to #3 TCU.
NEW ORLEANS-3 ULM-2
The Privateers gained a big win at flight four and swept the top two spots in the rotation as they defeated the Warhawks 3-2. New Orleans lost the first match of the season against ULM in Houston in the opening tournament of the season.
With the rotation shuffled around a bit,
Hailey Melerine and
Taylore Louviere were paired together for the first time this season. The duo responded by defeating Kaitlyn Nowak and Madison Gray 21-19, 15-21, 15-12.
The Privateers then clinched the match with consecutive wins at flights one and two.
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte held off Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek 21-19, 21-17.
At flight two,
Maxine Walsh and
Hannah Volpi were extended to extra rallies in the third set but the duo persevered for the match clinching point. Walsh and Volpi won the third set 19-17 to take the victory in the first match of the day.
#3 TCU-5 NEW ORLEANS-0
It was a tough battle against one of the best in the nation as the Privateers fell 5-0 to the undefeated Horned Frogs in their second match of the day.
TCU did not drop a set on the way to victory but they were challenged by the Privateers. Pokorna and Esarte took TCU's top duo to extra rallies in the opening set before falling 26-24, 21-16.
Alexis Filippone and Hailey Brockett also were victorious but it took two competitive sets as they won 21-16, 21-17 over
Alexa Spartz and
Trinity Jackson.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will close the tournament with matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Arizona State on Saturday. The first match will be against the Islanders at 7:30 a.m.
