NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (8-4, 1-0) will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Northwestern State Lady Demons (8-4, 1-0). First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers opened their conference slate with a convincing 7-0 win against McNeese a week ago. In that match, New Orleans coasted to the doubles point and won five of their six matches in straight sets against the Cowgirls.
New Orleans came off a tough midweek match against Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The Lady Techsters won their 13
th match in a row after defeating the Privateers on Wednesday.
As a unit the Privateers have won nearly 61 percent of their singles matches this season.
Lina Hohnhold is 7-1 while
Mar Gendra leads the team in victories with eight.
This match begins a critical home stretch for the Privateers. Of their four remaining conference matches after Saturday, three will be on the road. New Orleans is 4-3 in road matches this season.
Northwestern State also got out to a convincing start in conference play when they defeated Southeastern 6-1. The Lady Demons this year have won just under 68 percent of their doubles matches. In singles, three Lady Demons have at least seven wins: Mariella Minetti, Viktorie Wojcikova and Ayu Ishibashi.
