FORT WORTH, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team was in two close battles including the tournament finale but they were defeated 4-1 by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 3-2 by Arizona State in day two of the Fight in the Fort.
TEXAS A&M-CC-4 NEW ORLEANS-1
The Privateers were in another tough battle against the Islanders as they extended Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a third set in two matches to start the day.
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte won over defending Southland Pair of the Week, Giuliana Poletti and Brooke Pertuit. The Privateers' top duo prevailed after losing the first set as they won in extra rallies in the third.
Liz Gialanella and
Serena Baumgart came back from a set down to tie the score at 1-1 and force a third set. However, Shea Slusser and Hannah Doyle wound up the victors by taking the third set 15-8. Texas A&M-CC won the remaining three matches in straight sets to improve to 3-0 against the Privateers this season.
ARIZONA STATE-3 NEW ORLEANS-2
The Privateers gave the Sun Devils all they could handle but were ultimately defeated by the narrowest of margins to finish their stay in Fort Worth.
Maxine Walsh and
Hannah Volpi put up the first point for the Privateers as they scored a straight set victory and took the second in extra rallies by a 21-15, 24-22 score against Rylie Kael and Anya Pemberton.
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz scored the second point as they outdueled Sarah Waters and Lila Bordis 21-14, 18-21, 15-10.
It all came down to flight one and the top pairs on each side split the first two sets. However, Lexi Sweeney and Cierra Flood ultimately came through for Arizona State by winning the deciding third set 15-8.
