MONROE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team (14-10) completed a perfect weekend at the ULM Beach Invitational after a pair of 3-2 wins against the ULM Warhawks and the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears on Saturday.
NEW ORLEANS-3 ULM-2
The Privateers were faced with an early 2-0 deficit after the Warhawks won at flights four and five but they came back resiliently and won all of the top three flights to take their second match against ULM this season.
It began with
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte at flight one. The duo were stretched to extra rallies in the opening set as they led 18-17 at the fifth changeover. The pair wound up winning 22-20 then gained a lot of separation early in the second set. They led by seven after the first 21 points and never looked back, winning 21-14.
Maxine Walsh and
Hannah Volpi also were taken to the limit in the opening set of their match but they persevered before controlling matters in the second set on their way to a 21-19, 21-13 victory.
The match decider was at flight three where
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz started on fire. They scored the first seven points of the first set and coasted to a 21-13 set victory. The pair gained enough of an early lead to hold off ULM's challenge in the second set as they took it 21-17 to win the match for New Orleans.
NEW ORLEANS-3 CENTRAL ARKANSAS-2
The Privateers ended the day with a 3-2 victory over Central Arkansas to finish the weekend undefeated. It was their second 4-0 weekend of the season.
Full results from the match to come later.
