NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans beach volleyball team kicked off the Southern Miss Beach Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. Friday as the Privateers went 3-2 in their first match topping Tulane before falling 2-3 against North Florida.

It was a strong finish to the first battle of the day for the Privateers who edged Tulane as they dropped only two sets against the Green Wave. This is the Privateers' first victory of the season against the local New Orleans rival.
Three pairs defeated their opponents in straight sets, and Ivana Peixe and
Tara Goolsby only allowed eight points in the second set of their win at flight 6.
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte were also dominate in their shut out of the Green Wave with sets at 21-19, 21-16.
Liz Gialanella and Valerie Vujnovich had to rally from down a set but did so with a competitive second set. The flight four duo then sealed the deal and took the third set 15-13.
SPRING HILL COLLEGE-3 NEW ORLEANS-2
Tied 2-2 versus the Spring Hill, the Sandy Badgers rallied in the tie-breaking third set to claw out a 2-1 victory that ultimately came down to final point in a 15-13 win.
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz pulled out a victory in the second set on flight three with 21-14, but the Sandy Badgers duo came back with another win at 15-13 to win the match.
NEXT UP
The New Orleans beach squad will remain in Hattiesburg on Saturday to face tournament host Southeastern at 1 p.m. and ULM at 5 p.m. on the final day of the USM Beach Invitational II.
