HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team (16-12) finished their weekend at the Southern Miss Beach Invitational Il with a split performance defeating the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears with a 3-2 win and falling to the ULM Warhawks, 2-3, on Saturday evening.
NEW ORLEANS-3 CENTRAL ARKANSAS-2
The Privateers set the tone with an early win in straight sets over the Sugar Bears at flight four but were quickly answered with a Central Arkansas win at flight five in straight sets. The Privateers sealed their victory with the two straight set victories at flights two and one.
It began with
Maxine Walsh and Liz Gialanella at flight one. The duo battled to victory in the first set, winning 21-19. Walsh and Gialanella carried the momentum over to the second set only allowing seven points by the Sugar Bears, winning 21-7.
Trinity Jackson/Alexa Spartz and Lucie Pokorna/Ania Esarte also rallied to win in straight sets at flights two and one respectively.
NEW ORLEANS-2 ULM-3
The Privateers put up a great fight against ULM, but were defeated in the fourth meeting between the Privateers and the Warhawks, 2-3, leaving the season series tied at 2-2.
After the Warhawks led 3-0, UNO came back to take the final two matches of the day.
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz defeated Adams and Blazek on court two, 21-19, 23-21. On court one,
Lucie Pokorna and
Ania Esarte defeated Brooks and Gallant, 16-21, 21-17, 15-10.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will play in the Battle on the Bayou next Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge, La., for their final tournament before the Southland Conference Championship.
