Kone and Forde Advance; Kone makes NCAA Track and Field DI East Preliminary Round History

BLOOMINGTON, In.- Sophomore Ismael Kone and freshman Julian Forde advance to the NCAA East Preliminary Quarterfinals on Friday at Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Indiana. Kone makes history in the process by becoming the fastest qualifier in round one of the men's 100m at 10.00. Kone is now the fourth-fastest wind-legal performer in NCAA Track & Field DI East Preliminary Round history. The time was also a facility record.

Kone also cruised to an automatic qualifying time of 20.30 in the 200m, a season best out of lane nine, while easing off the gas in the last 30 meters.

Alongside Kone, in the same heat, will be Forde in the final round of the 100m as he was also an automatic qualifier today cruising to 10.37 and placing 2nd in his heat. 24 advanced to next round: the top three in each heat were automatic qualifiers, and the next six best times advanced.

While Elliott Cummings' time of 10.28 in the 100m preliminary was among the top 24 times, he was not an automatic qualifier and his time was beat by one millisecond to secure the final spot for the quarterfinals. Parker McBride concluded his outdoor season with a final run of 1:52.65 in the 800m. McBride is the 2022 Southland 800m champion and the 800m school record holder.

Vojislav Gvero concluded his collegiate career int he hammer throw with his furthest throw of 60.37m - about three meters off his collegiate personal best (63.30).

UP NEXT
Kone, Forde and the 4x100m relay (Forde, Cummings, Kone, Melancon, Murphy) will compete on Friday, May 27  beginning at 5 p.m. EST with the relay. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
