Privateers Ready for 2022 Southland Outdoor Track & Field Championships

HUMBLE, Texas – The Privateers are set to compete at the 2022 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning today, May 6, in Humble, Texas. Turner Stadium will be the host site for the championship event, which runs through May 8.

The Privateers are all looking to secure a top three finish on both the women's and men's side.

"We are looking to compete with the intent to win every event we can," says Head Coach Brian Johnson.

"We have been working hard this season, and I believe we are ready to perform well. With 90 degree weather, I know we are capable of producing fast times and distances. I can't wait to see which student athlete steps up big."

Friday's events are scheduled to begin with the men's and women's hammer throw followed by the men's long jump. Opening-day running events begin with the women's 10,000m finals at 7:30 p.m., immediately followed by the men's 10,000m finals event at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday's finals action include the  women's finals shot put. Sunday's running event finals open with the women's 1500m at 4 p.m. and conclude with the men's 3000m SC at 8:25 p.m.

"We have about 10 athletes who are on the bubble for NCAA East Regionals and I am hoping they can punch their ticket to regionals this weekend," says Johnson.

Privateers are looking to achieve qualifying marks for the preliminary round of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 25-28 in Bloomington, Ind., for the East Region or Fayetteville, Ark., for the West Region. The 2022 NCAA National Championships are set to be hosted at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11.
