Kyle Bennett and the Privateers Finish Third at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate

FINAL RESULTS (GolfStat) | DAY ONE RECAP | PHOTOS

NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans junior Kyle Bennett finished tied for third as the University finished with a score of 860 – also good for third place – at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.

For the second straight day the Privateers got off to a slow start in Mathews, La – falling all the way to fifth place in the middle of the third round before closing strong and finishing ahead of all but one Southland foe.

Bennett led the Privateers with a season-best finish – tying for third with Cameron Hubbard of Stephen F. Austin, and Landen East of Southeastern at 5-under-par.  All three of the Zachary native's rounds at LaTOUR were under par – it was the second time this season Kyle has been par or better for all three rounds of a tournament.

Bennett made 15 birdies over two days – leading UNO and tied for third among the field. He also was the best in the field on par-4 holes with an average of 3.83, and a collective score of 5-under-par on those holes.

Mason Roberts finished tied for 12th with a score of 216. Like Bennett, Roberts also finished with 15 made birdie putts and made his fourth eagle of the season on hole 13 during the final round.

Ryan Fulton finished 29th with a score of 222 after shooting even par on Tuesday afternoon. Thomas Artigas finished tied for 30th with a score of right behind Fulton after shooting a 223. George Trappey finished right behind them in 34th with a score of 224.

As a squad the Privateers made 55 birdies, tied with HCU for the second most in the field behind Stephen F. Austin's 57. Artigas, Fulton and Roberts all had eagles for UNO – who now have 12 eagles through the first half of this season.

Stephen F. Austin – coached this week by former Privateer Jackson Smith – won the individual team championship with a score of 851, and the individual champion was Brooks Pawlak of HCU who played as an independent and finished with a score of 208.

Privateer Golf finishes the fall portion of their schedule with a 37-28-1 (.568) record, including a 12-1 mark against Southland Conference opponents. The Privateers averaged 285.2 strokes per tournament – on pace to break the school record by four strokes, and 9 of their 15 rounds were below par. The last Privateer team with more rounds below par over an entire season was the 2007-2008 team (11), who was also the last Privateer team with two rounds under 280 in the same season.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"It was a frustrating day. This was the first time all year that we had a substantial wind blowing and we did not handle the conditions well at all. Nobody is going to make any excuses for this type of performance today. We must get better."

WE ARE YOUR KREWE

And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
