HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team completed their weekend at the Lady Eagles Fall Invitational with a finals appearance in a doubles draw from
Laurie Barendse and
Ksenia Reznitskaya among the results.
The Privateer tandem was placed in the draw for flight two. Together, they beat Irene Artigas and Martina Zarza of Jacksonville State 6-3 in the first round. They advanced to play a team from the host school in Southern Miss.
Once again, Barendse and Reznitskaya were up to the task as they beat Angelina Blinova and Malannia Vashkevich 6-4 to advance to the final where they battled but were defeated 6-3 by a tandem from North Alabama.
Barendse won a pair of matches in flight one singles against opponents from North Alabama. She coasted to an opening round win against Marta Torres 6-3, 6-1. Then she picked up a victory against Marta Serra by a 6-1, 6-3 score. In between, Barendse came up just short in three sets against Valeria San Miguel 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7.
Anastassia Kouchnareva also began her singles journey with a win as she outlasted Polina Ramenskaja 10-8 in a third set super tiebreak. Kouchnareva lost to the main draw champion, Ella Toumela of Jacksonville State.
A pair of Privateers rebounded from opening round losses in singles to make the consolation draw finals in their respective flights.
Kateryna Kalistratova scored a 6-1, 7-5 win over Hannah Chambers of Southern Miss. Reznitskaya beat Raquel Alvaro of ULM 6-0, 6-3.
Kouchnareva and
Tristanne Dechoux won their opening round match in flight one doubles. The pair fought through a tiebreak win against Suhana Das and Zenn Lim of Southern Miss.
