NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans Cross Country program completed their season with 11
th and 14
th place finishes for the women and men, respectively, at the 2023 NCAA South Central Regionals in Fayetteville on Friday morning.
The Privateer women finished one place higher than their ranking, finishing No. 11 overall with a total of 301 points and an average time of 22:16 across the top five finishers. New Orleans finished first among the Southland schools, besting the Southland Champions Lamar by 46 points.
Alexandra Weir led the way for the Privateer women in her third career appearance at the South Central Regionals finishing in 38
th place with a time of 21:42.0 – her best this season.
Tshwanelo Maruping finished right behind with a 40
th place finish and a time of 21:48.4. Weir and Maruping's times are the 11
th and 12
th fastest NCAA Regional marks in program history.
Finishing third for the Privateer women was
Emma Bourg, with a 74th place in 22:27.7. Coming off winning the Southland Conference's Freshman of the Year two weeks ago, Bourg's time is the third fastest NCAA Regional time by a freshman in program history.
Sophia Wolf's time of 22:30.9 was good enough for 79
th place and a personal best time for the graduate student.
Oxana Bonjorn-Giros completed her first career NCAA Regional and ran to a new personal best time of 22:53.0 – good for 99
th place.
Agnes Danner finished in 147
th place with a time of 23:47.3 - the fourth best time for a freshman at the NCAA Regionals in program history.
The Privateer men finished in 14th place, finishing ahead of all but one Southland foe. The men finished with 351 points and an average time of 31:52 across the top five finishers. Their average time was thirty seconds faster than at last year's South Central Regional.
Freshman
Matthew Hansen led the Privateer men finishing 44th place in 31:04.5, good for the second fastest 10K time in program history and fastest time in program history by a freshman. The Australian was also the fourth freshman at any school to cross the line Friday morning.
Junior
Evan Pardo finished his first career NCAA Regional in 31:34.4 and 61
st place. Pardo's time is now the fourth fastest 10K time in program history, only behind
Kolyn Saltzman (set at last year's South Central Regional) and Hansen's time from this morning.
Cade Litolff improved on his 82
nd place finish in last season's South Central Regional with a 64
th place finish in 31:36.6 - over a 54 second improvement from his time in 2021. Litolff's time is now the fifth fastest in program history.
Alex Soileau finished his second career NCAA Regional race in 99
th place, improving upon his 141
st place finish from last season. His time of 32:31.1 was a new personal best by over three-and-a-half minutes.
Baptiste Depril-Dupre's time of 32:35.4 was good enough for a 101
st place finish and a 56 second improvement on his personal best set at last season's South Central Regional while competing for Louisiana. Soileau and Depril-Dupre's times are now the ninth and tenth fastest in program history.
Gary Sandrock finished in 136
th place with a time of 33:25.7 - an eight second improvement on his time at the South Central Regional last season.
Kelvin Chiku finished his first career NCAA Regional with a time of 33:32.9 and 139
th place.
