Privateers Continue Road Swing With Midweek Contest at South Alabama

GAME NOTES

MOBILE, Ala.
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team hits the road on Wednesday for a mid-week contest against the South Alabama Jaguars. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Center and the game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus.

The Privateers are coming off an 81-54 defeat to Houston. Three student-athletes notched double figures led by Justice Ross who had 13 points and seven rebounds. The Privateers held the Cougars to 27 percent from the field in the second half (12-of-43).

Alexis Calderon and Brianna Ellis enter the week as co-leaders in the Southland in steals. Both guards have 13 steals through the team's first five games. Calderon has three consecutive games of three or more steals. Ellis also has three contests of three or more steals. They both rank tied for 61st in the nation in that category.

DeArica Pryor returned from a one-game absence to contribute 11 points on Sunday. Pryor is fourth in the Southland in scoring (13.3 points per game). Last season against South Alabama, Pryor went for what was a career-high 29 points in a 71-63 win.

The Privateers are looking to break a trend that's stuck around since their days in the Sun Belt. New Orleans has not won a game in Mobile against South Alabama since 2002. The Jaguars have won eight straight against the Privateers at home.

In the all-time series, New Orleans has won two of the last three games and has a 31-21 lead in the series. Both teams have double-digit win streaks in the series. The Privateers won 19 straight from 1991-2000. The Jaguars won 11 straight from 2003-2009.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
South Alabama is coming off a 62-53 win over Denver last Saturday which moved their record to 4-2 under first year head coach, Yolisha Jackson. Coach Jackson is in her second stint with Mobile after previously spending seven years as an assistant coach.

Kelsey Thompson is the only Jaguar averaging double figures at 12.7 points per game. Four other players are averaging between 8.3 and 9.7 points per game. The Jaguars as a team have out-rebounded four of their first six opponents.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
