FINAL RESULTS
NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Track and Field Program added three more event wins, and 18 more personal bests to their season tally on Friday at the Samford Bulldog Invitational.
New Orleans swept the both 800 meter races with
Alexandra Weir and
Kelvin Chiku coming out on top. Weir, running her first indoor 800 since 2020, led from gun to tape finishing in 2:12.19 – two seconds faster than Haley Salsbury of Louisiana. Fellow Privateers
Irene Bonanomi and Anna Marin finished fourth and sixth in the 800 with times of 2:18.42 and 2:20.28 – both personal bests.
Chiku won his 800 with a time 1:52.87 – just shy of his time last week that remains the Southland's best this season. Finishing right behind him with a new personal best in the 800 was
Jaden Forester with a time of 1:53.91, while
Cade Litolff also finished inside the top 10 with a personal best of 1:57.28.
Australia native
Matthew Hansen had perhaps the most exciting moment on Friday for the Privateers after he won the men's 3000-meter race in his collegiate debut. The freshman out of Brisbane finished his run in a time of 8.27.21 ahead of Sam Wilhelm out of Alabama Huntsville.
Jorim Bangue made his Privateer debut as well and finished his 60M Hurdles preliminary heat with a time of 8.34 – good enough to qualify for the finals, although he did not participate.
Aisha Johnson set a new personal best in her 60-meter heat finishing fifth with a time of 7.70. Later on in the finals she placed fifth after a time of 7.76. Johnson also set a new personal best at the 200-meter distance with a time of 26.06.
At the conclusion of the Samford Bulldog Invitational the Privateers have now won eight individual events this season, and have 40 marks/times that currently rank inside to the top-10 on the Southland performance list this season.
Weir now ranks 7
th in the 3000M, 13
th in the mile, and 24
th in the 800 in the South Central Region. On the men's side Forester tanks 7
th in the mile, Chiku ranks 14

HEAD COACH BROCK MOREAU
"It was another good step in the right direction for the group. We showed a lot of consistency in performances, and also came away with three event wins today.
Matthew Hansen coming away with a win in his debut was an exciting moment for us, as well as Kelvin proving his consistency in the 800m. On the women's side, Alex Weir stepping down and winning the 800m gun to tape, and Aisha stepping up in the 60m were big for us.
All in all, I thought it was a great momentum builder as we get ready to head into championships season."
