FINAL RESULTS
NEW ORLEANS – Freshman Jumper
Alimot Alowonle finished in first place in one event, and set a new school record in another to lead the way on a "mission accomplished" type of outing for the University of New Orleans Track and Field squad on Friday at the LSU Twilight.
Alowonle won the women's long jump with a mark of 5.88m - far surpassing her previous best mark of 5.67m. The Lagos native's mark in Baton Rouge was the longest by a Privateer since Farydah Inoussa's jump of 5.94m in 2015 and currently ranks third on the Southland performance list.
Alimot continued her impressive day and finished third in the triple jump by breaking the school record with a mark of 12.03m. The previous record (11.82m) had been set over two decades ago by Ngardy Conteh in 2001. Her triple jump mark today currently ranks fifth on the Southland performance list.
Vivette Green and
Sarinity Bracey both qualified for the finals of the Women's 60-meter, and Women's 60-meter hurdles respectively. Bracey finished in 4
th place setting a new personal best with a time of 8.94, while Green finished her finals race in fifth with a season-best time of 7.51.
The Privateers set eight personal bests on Friday at Carl Maddox Field House. Thrower
Briana Bell broke her own personal best twice in the weight throw, while
James Grant (60M),
Jorim Bangue (60M H), Bracey (60M H),
Alex Soileau (Mile),
Dante Scott (TJ) also had personal bests.
Heading into next week's Southland Indoor Championships the Privateers have won nine individual events this season, and currently own 32 times/marks inside the top 10 on the Southland performance lists.
UP NEXT
For the third time this season, the Privateers will return to the Birmingham Crossplex for the 2023 Southland Indoor Championships. Things get underway Sunday, Feb. 26, and conclude on Monday, Feb. 27. The championships will be broadcast on ESPN+. Final information about the schedule and live results will be made available early next week.
HEAD COACH BROCK MOREAUX
"It was a mission-accomplished type of day. We came in with the intention of just focusing on a couple of key events and to get a few more strong efforts in before the conference championships, and we got it done."
"Briana and Karena started us off strong in the throws, and then Sarinity, Helen, before Vivette ran really strong races in their finals. Alimot finished up our day with a pair of big jumps that included a Triple Jump school record."
"I think we are walking away with a few key doses of confidence that we need heading into the Southland Championships."
