Women's Tennis to Face Pair of Local Foes to Begin Week

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will put their unbeaten start on the line when they face the Tulane Green Wave at City Park Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Privateers then turn around and take on the Loyola Wolfpack at home on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

New Orleans (3-0) clinched the match quickly against ULM in their last outing on Friday. The Privateers scored the first four points by earning the doubles decision and singles wins at flight one, five and six. ULM won three-set matches on the remaining courts.

Doubles teams have been immaculate for the Privateers through the first three matches. All six decisions have gone New Orleans' way. Didi Bredberg Canizares and Raluca Puscas are 3-0 at flight two this season. Laurie Barendse and Tristanne Dechoux have won both of their decisions at flight one.

Bredberg, Puscas and Kateryna Kalistratova are a combined 8-0 in singles this season. Puscas and Kalistratova have provided a big lift at flights five and six for the Privateers' singles rotation.

The Privateers are looking to turn things around on the courts against the Green Wave. In the all-time series, Tulane has won 11 straight matches. The last win by New Orleans took place on Feb. 9, 2002. By a 5-2 score. In that stretch, Tulane has seven sweeps.

Tulane (2-2) has bounced back off a tough pair of matches to open the spring. The Green Wave shut out Southern 7-0 and topped ULM 6-1. The spring season began with a pair of matches against top five opponents in Texas and Texas A&M.

Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu have won both of their doubles decisions at flight two.

Loyola was ranked #14 in the NAIA preseason poll. The Wolfpack (3-1) took two points off of Nicholls in their only loss of the season. Lucy Carpenter was the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season.
