NEW ORLEANS – Jaden Forester and
Alexandra Weir were named men's and women's Southland Runners of the Week by the league office on Wednesday afternoon after both had record breaking performances at last weekend's Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational.
For the second time this season Forester broke the school's record for a one mile run - this time by five seconds - after completing his race in 4:04.54. Forester's time is the fastest mile by a Southland student-athlete since Southeastern's Shea Foster ran a 4:03.57 in the 2021 Southland Championships, and currently ranks as the seventh best mile in the South Central Region.
Alexandra Weir was named Southland Women's Runner of the Week after an outstanding time of 9:28.80 in the 3,000 meters. Weir broke a school record that had stood for 22 years by seven seconds. Her time in Boston was the fastest by a Southland student-athlete since Lamar's Jannika John ran a 9:23.20 in January of 2015, and is the seventh best in the South Central Region so far this season.
This is the second time this season Forester has been named Southland Runner of the Week, and the first time for Weir.
