HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans beach volleyball program will face four conference opponents in a Southland mid-year tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Third Coast Volleyball Club.
The Privateers (5-3) will begin with two matchups on Saturday against San Jose State University (4-0) at 11 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Boise State (6-2). Another pair of matches on Sunday will close the weekend for New Orleans, who will face Nicholls (2-6) at 1 p.m. and HCU (2-6) at 3 p.m.
The results from this weekend will go towards determining seeding for the SLC Championships, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus-Christi on April 21-23.
It will be the first meetings with Boise State and San Jose State since the two schools became affiliate members this year.
New Orleans has won two of the last three meetings against HCU dating back to February 2022. It includes a 5-0 sweep at last year's HCU tournament.
The Privateers are looking to extend their win streak, coming off a win over Nicholls at the Clash on the Bayou Invite. On flight two, seniors
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz went undefeated in four matches that also include wins over Loyola, LaGrange, and ULM, sweeping each team in straight sets.
On court four, senior
Hannah Volpi, who made her season debut, and junior Val Vujnovich also went 4-0 in the last matches.
Jackson and Spartz hold the team-best 6-2 record on the season so far.
Senior
Ania Esarte and freshman Maria Ozeata hold a 5-3 record on court one. Esarte, Ozeata, Spartz and Jackson were all named to the Southland's "Players to Watch" list. The three returners were named to All-Conference Teams last season.
The Privateers lead Nicholls 9-0 all-time and trail 4-13 to HCU.
