Kyle Bennett Tied for First after First Two Rounds of Louisiana Classics

DAY ONE RESULTS

NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans sophomore Kyle Bennett was not phased by facing some of the NCAA's best golfers at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday afternoon – and finished his 36 holes tied for first at 1-over-par.

The Zachary native got off to a flying start during round one with five birdies and finished his afternoon the best among the field on par-5's with an average of 4.0 and a score of 6-under-par – three strokes better than the next nearest competitor. In total Kyle sank 9 of New Orleans' 21 birdies – the most of any golfer at the Louisiana Classics on in the first two rounds.

As a squad the Privateers came out on fire and finished the first round at 295 – tied for second place, ahead of several of Golfstat's top-50 teams. Bennett finished his opening round tied for first place at even par, Grayson Gilbert and Canon Clark finished the round tied for 17th at 3-over-par, and Pepe De La Concepcion Quilez finished tied for 40th at 5-over-par.

New Orleans continued to battle for the majority of the second round and spent most of Monday afternoon tied for sixth place. A rough final few holes left the Privateers tied for 10th with a score of 608 headed into Tuesday morning. UNO sits just eight strokes behind Denver in seventh place, and 10 behind Texas State in sixth.

Round three gets underway tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"Really proud of the effort today. Looking at the scores across the board, the course obviously played extremely difficult today. We just had a difficult time getting in the house this afternoon and that was a tad disappointing. "

"For us to be in second place after the first round proves that we can play with some of the best teams in the country. Hopefully that gives us some confidence and we can come out tomorrow with some intensity and post a great score."

(on Kyle Bennett)
"I could not be happier for KB. He played super consistent today. He took care of business on the par fives and minimized his mistakes on the difficult holes. I'm excited to see him fight for a title tomorrow!"
