Women's Tennis Hosts Bryant and NJIT

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will play a Southland home swing this week with a pair of matches. The Privateers will host Bryant on Tuesday and NJIT on Friday. Both matches are set for 2 p.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.

New Orleans (6-3) will be opening conference play. Their last match was a 6-1 victory against Alcorn State on Mar. 7. The Privateers won three of the four matches that went to three sets in singles on the day.

Didi Bredberg Canizares has continued her unbeaten run of form this season. The freshman is 6-0 in singles, all at flight one. Five of her six wins have come in straight sets and the other came via an opponent retirement after two games. She has held opponents to two games won or fewer in six of her 13 completed sets this season.

Kateryna Kalistratova co-leads the team in wins with six on the season. The freshman is 2-0 in three-set matches this season after she came back from a set down against Alcorn State.

This week begins a stretch of home matches. Five of the next seven are at home. Even though Bryant and NJIT are affiliate members of the Southland in tennis, the matches will not count toward the conference standings because both schools are not playing a full conference schedule.

New Orleans has not played against Bryant. The Privateers have played one match against NJIT which was a 7-0 win in Mar. 2018.

Bryant is 7-4 on the season. The Bulldogs were shut out in their last match against Brown on Mar. 10. Camila Baeza and Natalia Vela co-lead the team in singles wins with six.

NJIT is 7-3 on the year with five of those wins coming at home. Four players have five wins for NJIT this spring in singles.
