Beach Privateers Set for Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The New Orleans beach volleyball team heads to Youngsville for the Sugar Beach Bash, hosted by Southeastern, at the Youngsville Sports Complex Sugar Beach facility with duals against Texas-El Paso, Texas A&M-Kingsville and SLU this Friday and Saturday.
 
New Orleans will open against UTEP (2-7) at 9 a.m. before facing TAMUK (4-7) at 1 p.m. on Friday.

The Privateers (7-5) are fresh off a .500 weekend at the Southland Showcase hosted at Third Coast Volleyball Club. As they look to get above the even mark, New Orleans has one conference match remaining after this weekend's action. New Orleans earned wins over conference opponents Nicholls and San Jose State,while taking two points against Boise State and Houston Christian. The senior duo of Alexa Spartz and Trinity Jackson sit 15th nationally, among the No. 2's.

The UTEP program is in its first year and heads into the weekend having won the first two matches in program history, defeating Master's last weekend before downing Southeastern this past Wednesday. The pair of Krista Paegle and Serena Patterson is 3-1 playing at the twos.

TAMUK, an NCAA Division II program,are looking to snap a seven-game skid that has seen them drop contests to six NCAA Division I programs, including three Power Five teams. They remain undefeated against non-DI colleges. The No. 3 pair of juniorGrace Gettysand freshmanOlivia Zeigler, along with the No. 4 duo ofMeghan StieferandKalani Vasquez, represented the only two tandems to take points in a weekend that saw TAMUK battle No. 1/1 Texas Christian, No. 4/5 Louisiana State and Southern Mississippi.

On Saturday, the Privateers face the Javelinas again at 9 a.m. before taking on SLU (9-3) at 3:00 p.m.

The Lions (4-10), look to get back in the win column after dropping two straight.
