NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will start the week at home when they face the Nicholls Colonels on Monday at the Privateer Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
New Orleans (7-3) defeated Southland affiliate member, Bryant last week 5-2. They were scheduled to play NJIT on Friday but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.
The Privateers are 7-0 at home this season after their 5-2 win against Bryant. Five of the six singles matches went to three sets and two of the three doubles matches were pushed to a deciding tiebreak. New Orleans was victorious in both tiebreaks and three of the five singles matches that went the distance.
Didi Bredberg Canizares has won her first seven singles matches on the season. She has also teamed up with
Raluca Puscas for a 6-2 mark in doubles. Bredberg has won all of her matches in singles at flight one this year.
Kateryna Kalistratova has been pushed to three sets in both of her last two matches and has won both. Kalistratova is 7-2 in singles after picking up three-set victories against Alcorn State and Bryant.
New Orleans has won six straight decisions against the Colonels heading into the week. The last time Nicholls beat the Privateers on the court was in 2015. New Orleans won last season's meeting against Nicholls 5-2.
Nicholls (8-7) has won back-to-back matches entering the week. The Colonels followed up a 5-2 win against Bryant with a 4-3 victory over NJIT last Thursday.
Dareen Hassan and Carla Bouygues co-lead the squad with nine singles wins this spring. Constanza Cruz follows close behind with eight. Nicholls has lost the doubles point in 10 of their 15 matches this season.
