NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team had their weekend schedule altered due to potential inclement weather. As a result, their match against McNeese was moved up to Thursday at 2 p.m.
The match at Lamar has been rescheduled from Sunday to Apr. 16.
New Orleans (7-4, 0-1) suffered a heartbreaking loss earlier in the week when they were defeated by Nicholls in the Southland opener 4-3. The Colonels won a pair of three-set matches at the end to rally back for the win.
The Privateers have been strong in doubles throughout the season. In 28 combined matches that have been completed, New Orleans has won 20. They have won the doubles point in eight of their 11 matches this season.
Co-leading the way in doubles are two teams.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and
Ksenia Reznitskaya compiled a record of 7-2. The same is true for
Didi Bredberg Canizares and
Raluca Puscas who have an identical mark in the spring.
The top spot in the lineup has been gold for the Privateers. As a team they are 10-0 at flight one in singles. Bredberg has gone 8-0 while Kouchnareva is 2-0 while playing at the top flight.
New Orleans has won back-to-back matches against McNeese coming into Thursday. The Privateers swept the Cowgirls last season 7-0 and won 5-2 in 2021. The last McNeese win against New Orleans was in 2019.
McNeese (10-2) has won three straight matches, topping Dillard, Stephen F. Austin and Bradley. The Cowgirls' only two losses have come at the hands of Wyoming and Louisiana.
Maria Wang Martinez is a freshman who has stood out in singles. Her record is 11-1 and she is on a six-match winning streak. Emma-Lou Pommiers has played at flight one throughout the season and has a mark of 7-1.
