Privateers Split Bayou Beach Duals; Spartz Sets Record for Most Games Played

ELMWOOD, La. –The New Orleans Beach Volleyball team split the day at the Bayou Beach Duals as they dropped a match against event host Tulane 0-5 and earned a 4-1 victory over Southeastern at the White Sands Volleyball Courts in Elmwood Thursday.

With the win over the Lions, Alexa Spartz became the record holder for most games played (108) in Privateer Beach history and tied for the most all time wins (60) with Veronica Corcoran. Corcoran had 60 wins and played 107 games during her 2017-21 career.
 
The Bayou Beach Duals opened with the Crescent City matchup against Tulane. Snapping their six game win streak, Spartz and Trinity Jackson were the lone pair that pushed to a third set at court two, but the senior duo came up short.

However, New Orleans ended the day on a high note as they neared the sweep over Southeastern in their rematch. At court five Serena Baumgart and Rita Zecchin paired together to put the Privateers on the board first, winning in straight sets 21-19, 21-19. Tied at one,Valerie Vojnovich and Hannah Volpi quickly followed to put New Orleans up 2-1 taking their match at court three 21-15, 21-19. The match against the Lions was clinched from court one by Ania Esarte and Maria Ozaeta with a two-set victory 21-17, 21-19. New Orleans tacked on another win from Spartz and Jackson to make it 4-1.

New Orleans makes the short trip to Baton Rouge for the two-day LSU Beach Invitational. New Orleans faces off against Southern Miss, No. 6 LSU, No. 12 Washington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Matches begin on Saturday, March 25, at 9 a.m. against Southern Miss with the LSU match coming at noon.Play ends on Sunday, March 26, with the first match of the day against Washington slated for 9 a.m. and the final dual against the Islanders at noon.
