NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans women's relay teams had two top-five finishes and broke a school record at the Texas Relays on Saturday. The Privateers also collected four top-10 finishes at the Bobcat Invitational and set five personal bests.
TEXAS RELAYS | FULL RESULTS
For the second straight week, the Privateer women broke a school record. Last week at the Battle on the Bayou the UNO women broke the school's 4x100 record - this week it was the Distance Medley Relay record that fell when Tshwanelo Maruping, Trinity Bracey, Alexandra Weir and Ariana Jimenez finished in 11:51.99 - good for fifth place. Weir helped set the previous record (12:05.73) at last season's Texas Relays with former Privateers Esther Nwanze, Allie Louis, and Anna Dohmen.
The New Orleans women had another strong performance in the 4x100 as well, this time finishing in fourth place with a time of 46.87. Bracey, Vivette Green, Helen Baumgarten, and Alimot Alowonle finished about 1.2 seconds behind last week's record-breaking time.
Elliott Cummings finished top 20 in the men's 100M with a time of 10.27. Green finished 35th in the women's 100M with a time of 11.79, and Aisha Johnson set a new personal best in the 100M with a time of 11.79.
BOBCAT INVITATIONAL | FULL RESULTS
The Privateers set five personal bests, matched another, and had four top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational.
Matthew Christy broke his shot put personal best twice on Saturday morning. With three throws to go the Brother Martin product broke his previous personal best with a throw of 14.84 meters, before going .10 meters better on his penultimate throw and setting a second new personal best at 14.94 meters. He finished the event in eighth place.
Alimot Alowonle set a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters. She finished in eighth place in the event, and at the end of this evening ranks third on the Southland Performance list.
Gary Sandrock set a new personal best by almost eight seconds in the men's 5K – good for eighth place. In the women's 5K Michelle Folk grabbed another top-10 finish for New Orleans after finishing in eighth as well with a time of 18:41.39.
Christopher Murphy matched his previous personal best from the 2022 Southland Outdoor Championships with a long jump of 7.38 meters, and Alex Soileau set a new 1500M personal best with a time of 3:59.08.
