FINAL RESULTS (MILESPLIT)
HAMMOND – While the University of New Orleans distance runners ran through some rainy conditions across the country in California on Thursday night, only a handful of Privateers got that chance closer to home today as a massive storm around lunchtime ended the Strawberry Relays prematurely for the Privateers.
A pair of second-place finishes in the Women's 4x100, and 100M hurdles were the highlights for UNO on Saturday morning in Hammond. The 4x100 relay team finished in second behind Hinds Community College with a time of 46.21. Junior
Sarinity Bracey finished second in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 14.53, 0.2 seconds behind event winner Erkyah Garrett out of Jackson State.
Briana Bell set a new personal best in the women's hammer throw by almost three meters with a toss of 42.56m earning a spot in the finals.
Karena Grigenas also set a new hammer throw personal best with a throw of 43.36m, like Bell earning a spot in the finals.
Nicholaus Smith and
Quinton Collins both set new personal bests in the high jump at 1.9m and 1.8m respectively. Finally, junior
Irene Bonanomi set a new personal best in the 1500M with a time of 4:53.65.
NOTE
The men's and women's shot put were in progress when the weather came but Bell, Christy, and Grigenas had not thrown yet. Karena also did not get an attempt in the discus throw before the rains came.
