HATTIESBURG, MS - The New Orleans beach volleyball program will return to the Lakefront 15-12 with wins over Nicholls (5-0) and Southern Miss (3-2) in the final day of the USM Beach invite Saturday in Hattiesburg. The Privateers only dropped its rematch to UCA (4-1).
The UCA Bears defeated the Privateers on all courts in straight sets except for court two where Spartz and Jackson earned the sole point for the blue and silver.
Against the Colonels, New Orleans scored the opening dual point from court five where
Serena Baumgart and Ivana de Peixe completed a 21-11, 21-18 win. The Privateers went ahead, 2-0, on another straight set win by their court four pair of
Rita Zecchin and
Valentina Echeverri. New Orleans landed the clinching point with a win by its court three pair of
Valerie Vujnovich and
Hannah Volpi in straight sets.

A fourth point went on the board when the Privateers' No. 2 duo of Spartz and Jackson defeated the Colonels.New Orleans completed the clean 5-0 sweep with a win at the No. 1 position where
Ania Esarte and
Maria Ozaeta took down opponents in straight sets.
In the rematch against the Golden Eagles, Baumgart and Peixe got the Privateers off to a good start with its first point at court five in straight sets. USM answered with a point on court four in a three-set battle to defeat Zecchin and Echeverri. Vujnovich and Volpi took the lead again with a win on court three to put New Orleans up 2-1. Once again, USM answered with a win from their pair on court two over Spartz and Jackson in three sets. Esarte and Ozaeta clinched the match at court one also in three sets.
UP NEXT:New Orleans will take a day trip to Florence, AL for the North Alabama Tri-Match Saturday, April 8. The Privateers will face North Alabama at 9 a.m. followed by University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at 11 a.m.
