CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. - New Orleans Beach Volleyball's No. 2 pair of
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz earned a spot on the first team All-Southland Conference team for the second consecutive year the league announced today. In the senior duo's second year as a pair and first year at court two, they recorded a team best and conference best 24-7 record on the season.
Spartz concluded the regular season with 69 wins in her five seasons as a Privateer and holds the record for most career wins in program history. The Glendale, Ariz. native has also played the most games in program history at 121.
Jackson has 59 career wins in her four seasons to rank 3rd in all-time wins. 44 of those wins came when paired with teammate Spartz.
The pair also concluded the regular season on a five-game win streak. Their seven losses are only to No. 5 LSU (2), No. 17 Tulane (2), North Alabama, Southern Miss, and Boise State. In the matchup against conference leader Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the LSU Beach Invite, the pair was on the way to another win in the third set before the match was cut short due to an inclement weather threat.
"It is a well-deserved award. They have worked really hard throughout their career. Both as seniors, they have really stood out this year and have been one of the best teams in the conference," Head Coach
Amy Blanke said.
"This award is going to light a fire under our team since it is the only one we received. So they are going to show up (at the conference tournament), and they are going to use this to get the ultimate award, which is the conference championship."
New Orleans will take on No. 5 Southeastern in the first round of the 2023 Southland Beach Volleyball Championship Friday, April 21st in Corpus Christi, Texas. Opening serve is set for 12 p.m. The winner of the match will face No.1 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2:30 p.m.
