NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team topped Southeastern to move to 2-0 in Southland play during the Pontchartrain Beach Bash at Privateer Beach Courts.
The Privateers had a pair of three-set wins that helped vault them to a win over the Lady Lions over the weekend.
Lucianna Alexander and
Renata Dykstra were down a set after dropping the first 21-18 but the duo pushed through late in the third set. After the side switch, they won the next three points to push a third set which they prevailed in 15-12.
Brooke Dow and
Ashley Salazar also pulled out a three-set victory. Dow and Salazar won the first set 21-18 but Southeastern's pair of Maggie Paiva and Mia McKinney took the second set 21-14. However, Dow and Salazar would not be denied as they took the third set 15-10.
Cassie and
Ellie Sieling also won a point for the Privateers at flight one in straight sets. The sisters ended the second set on an 8-3 spurt as they took the match 21-17, 21-18 for their first win over Southeastern since 2023.
The Privateers lost twice to College of Charleston but had many competitive matches throughout.
Dow and Salazar won the Privateers' lone point against the Cougars on Friday after they rallied from down a set to win 18-21, 25-23, 15-12.
Sadie Elliott and
Shaylee Swartzendruber also carried their match to three sets. The Sieling twins were in the third set of their match.
Cassie and Ellie notched a win over College of Charleston on Saturday by taking their match 21-18, 21-17.
The Privateers also played McNeese and lost 4-1. Cassie and Ellie notched the Privateers' only point with a three-set win over Kendall Osgood and Kenzie Moore. Both of the first two sets went extra rallies before the Sielings took the third set 15-7.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will play in the Southland Mid-Conference in Houston starting on Mar. 21.
