Mauri Carver was awarded an NCAA Ethnic Minority Scholarship by the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee for the 2023-24 academic year.
Â
A standout in the classroom, on the court and in the athletic department, Mauri is a career 4.0 student and a two-time recipient of Director of Athletics Awards. Mauri is on track to complete her Master's Degree of Higher Education Administration in the Fall 2023 semester.
Â
"I'm so proud of Mauri and all her accomplishments so, her receiving this award just amplifies what an amazing student and athlete she has been these past five years," said Head Coach
Ashley Preston. "I'm excited that this scholarship gives her the opportunity to start her career in athletics."
Â
The graduate transfer had an excellent season with the Privateers in 2022. Carver finished fifth in the Southland in hitting percentage and eighth in blocks per set. She also played in 116 of the team's 119 sets on the season and had 10 matches with five or more total blocks.
Mauri was also selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Career in Sports Forum. Via ncaa.org, the Career in Sports Forum is an annual educational program that brings together 200 selected NCAA student-athletes to learn about and explore potential careers in sports, particularly college athletics. This unique three-day forum helps student-athletes chart their career paths. Participants network with and learn from current athletics professionals.
Â
"Mauri has been a great addition to our operations staff," said Director of Facilities and Maintenance, Aubrey Champion. "She gives the student-athlete perspective on situations which provides a different way of looking at things. She is self-motivated and takes every assignment in stride with a smile on her face."
Â
A North Carolina native, Mauri transferred from Maryland-Eastern Shore where her exemplary leadership led to her being voted a team captain in her sophomore year. Mauri led the MEAC in total blocks in 2021. Off the court, she served as SAAC President and was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
