NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans junior golfer
Maximilian Wojciechowski's strong start to the season continued Tuesday afternoon during the opening two rounds of the Grover Page Classic.
Wojciechowski carded a 1-under-par 143 after rounds of 71 and 72 to lead the Privateers on Monday afternoon at Jackson Country Club. Max sank birdie putts on three of his first five holes during round one to continue his hot start to the season. In six rounds so far this season Max has two under par, and two at par.
On a day where the field made a remarkable 43 combined eagles,
Mason Roberts had one in each round with
Kyle Bennett adding another for the Privateers during the second round. Both second round eagles for New Orleans came on the 480 yard par-5 hole 5.
Four of the five Privateer lineup members improved between rounds one and two. Both Bennett and Roberts improved by four strokes apiece,
Ryan Fulton improved by two strokes, and
Canon Clark improved by a stroke as well.
True freshman
George Trappey, playing as an independent, improved three strokes between rounds one and two to finish his day 5-over-par with a score of 149. Both Trappey and Wojciechowski made seven birdies, and the pair combined for 14 of UNO's 26 birdies on Monday.
New Orleans sits in 11
th place after rounds of 296, and 287. Three of the Privateers' first five rounds this season have been under par with the second round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge coming in at an even par.
After leading the field in pars made at last week's Golfweek Fall Challenge, the Privateers ended the first two rounds of the Grover Page Classic second in the field in pars with 110 – three behind Murray State.
