New Orleans Athletics Unveils 2023 #NOLAsTeam: We Are Your Krewe Marketing Campaign

NEW ORLEANS - Today the University of New Orleans Athletics Department unveiled the #NOLAsTeam: We Are Your Krewe marketing campaign. With the goal of strengthening the University's connection to the Greater New Orleans community and garnering the support of its 50,000 local alumni, the campaign includes multiple elements:

  • A new wordmark

  • The ReKREWEtment challenge

  • The Blue Krewe student section

  • The #NOLAsTeam radio show

  • "We Win; You Win" ticket promotion

"I'm super excited about the #NOLAsTeam: We Are Your Krewe Marketing Campaign," said Tim Duncan, Vice President of Athletics & Recreation.

"For four years, I have consistently touted that we are the only University with New Orleans across our chests. #NOLAsTeam: We Are Your Krewe provides Privateer Nation with a rally cry that serves as a call to action to join us and support our student-athletes and coaches as they represent our University and our City!"

The tagline "We Are Your Krewe" speaks to the University's unique and shared location of the nation's largest annual Carnival celebration in Mardi Gras. It is also a nod to the 54 seasons that Privateer student-athletes have proudly worn New Orleans on the jerseys.

The campaign will launch with the release of an inspiring "We Are Your Krewe" video featuring New Orleans student-athletes across all 14 Division I sports in addition to the Pom Squad. It is narrated by Mark Romig, voice of the New Orleans Saints and a '78 alumnus of the University. The wordmark, designed by Director of Creative Services Jasmine Washington and CEO of Sideline Design Chris Wilkerson, includes the New Orleans skyline in the University's blue and silver and the athletics tagline "#NOLAsTeam" conjoined with the New Orleans Privateer head.

"It was important for us to capture the essence of New Orleans in the new wordmark for this marketing campaign. New Orleans is rich in its culture, tradition and history, so, tying that back to the university that shares the city name was a must," said Washington.

"This wordmark will help enhance the athletic department's brand and association with the city and return Privateer Athletics to its rightful place amongst the nation's elite."

The 2023 ReKREWEtment Challenge, designed to fund student-athlete scholarships and enhance their collegiate experience, invites all Privateer fans and alumni to help grow Privateer Athletics by recruiting friends and family to join the #NOLAsTeam Krewe. When friends and family buy season tickets, support the Privateer Scholarship Fund or commit to upcoming events, fans and alumni in turn earn awesome prizes and experiences. The challenge begins today and is set to conclude at the Homecoming men's basketball game on Saturday, November 11th. Fans can join the challenge by visiting unoprivateers.com/reKREWEtmentchallenge.

"We are excited to partner with our alumni, fans and friends to help grow the #NOLAsTeam Krewe!  By bringing new people into our community – whether as season ticket buyers, donors to the Privateer Scholarship Fund or to participate in an upcoming event – we grow the base of support and make every game or event more exciting for everyone," said Assistant Vice President of Athletics and Deputy Athletic Director Steve Stroud.

"When fans ask, 'What can I do to help?' The ReKREWEtment Challenge is the answer."

To increase attendance and further engage New Orleans students, the campaign also features the Blue Krewe student section. By signing into the UNO Social App, available for Apple and Android users, upon entry to any New Orleans Athletics sporting events, students become members of the Blue Krewe and are eligible to win prizes. To learn more, students can follow @PrivateersBlueKrewe on Instagram.

The "We Win; You Win" ticket promotion is the first of several 2023-24 ticket promotions included in the campaign. Fans who take part in the offer, at just $40, will receive two reserved tickets to the first two home New Orleans men's basketball contests of the season (Monday, November 6 vs. Millsaps and Saturday, November 11 vs. SUNO at Lakefront Arena). With a victory in these two games, ticket holders will receive two FREE tickets to the next home game against Belhaven Tuesday, December 5. As long as the Privateers continue to win at home, fans will receive two free tickets to the next home game! Fans can purchase ticket packages by visiting unoprivateers.com/tickets.

Finally, New Orleans Athletics plans to launch the #NOLAsTeam radio show that will air every Tuesday at 3 p.m. on Cumulus Radio beginning Oct. 10. Cohosted by Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Tim Duncan and a surprise local sports multimedia personality, the show will include guest callers and will cover all things New Orleans Athletics from competition results to interviews with head coaches, student-athletes and key members of Privateer Nation.
