NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will play a pair of matches and host an SEC opponent to start the weekend. The Privateers will play Mississippi State and Mississippi Valley State on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The Mississippi State match is scheduled for 5 p.m. New Orleans will host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at 11 a.m. The match on Friday was pushed back from its original start time because Mississippi State will be playing Tulane earlier in the day at City Park.
The women's team has only played one match this season, a 4-2 loss to Jackson State on Feb. 7.
Laurie Barendse and
Tristanne Dechoux earned singles points for the Privateers against the Tigers.
Outside of that, New Orleans has dealt with weather issues. The Privateers were unable to play scheduled matches against Southern, West Florida and Southern Miss. The Jackson State match was also postponed from its original date before being played a week later.
With Mississippi State coming to town, it's the first time the Privateers are hosting an SEC opponent since the women hosted Mississippi State in February 1997.
The Bulldogs and Privateers are playing each other for the first time since 2013. Mississippi State won that match 6-1. Kristina Martic picked up the lone point for the Privateers that day.
