Beach Volleyball Dominates Opponents, Eyes Bayou Battle Sweep

THIBODAUX, La. - The University of New Orleans beach volleyball team secured a near-perfect outing by triumphing over Mary Hardin-Baylor with a commanding 4-1 victory and dominating Nicholls State with a flawless 5-0 win on Friday. With these victories, the Privateers advance to 4-2 on the season and aim to complete the tournament sweep against Nicholls and Southeastern on Saturday.

On courts number one, two, and four, the Privateers effectively shut down opponents, denying them them of all opportunities to reach double-digit scores.

Junior Ivana de Carvahlo Peixe and freshman Nikelle Lander delivered a particularly dominant performance, conceding only four and five points respectively on court four.

Seniors Hannah Volpi and Valerie Vujnovich also cruised to victory, conceding just nine points in both sets at court one. Meanwhile, senior Bria Garmon and sophomore Maria Ozaeta limited UMHB to 14 and 15 points in their decisive two-set win at court two. Freshman Ola Filip and freshman Stefanie Gonzalez clinched their first season win as a pair on court number five, bouncing back from a first-set loss to secure victory in the next two sets.

UMHB managed to secure their lone point against junior Serena Baumgart and freshman Anne Marie Hardouin in a tense deciding set at court number three.

The match against Nicholls State mirrored the earlier match with the Privateers securing victories with two-set advantages at courts one, two, four, and five. Sophomore Renata Dykstra secured her first career win in the lineup and contributed one point at court five alongside Salazar. Baumgart and Hardouin showed resilience, bouncing back from a first-set loss of 21-18 to claim a convincing 21-12 win in the second set and a hard-fought 15-13 victory in the deciding set, thereby contributing to New Orleans' sweep of its first conference opponent.
