NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will start Southland play with two matches at home over the next three days. The Privateers host the McNeese Cowgirls on Saturday at 1 p.m. and the Lamar Cardinals on Monday at 1 p.m.
New Orleans (1-3) played a tough match against an in-state opponent in their most recent outing. The Privateers lost 4-2 to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday at the Privateer Tennis Center. Two student-athletes earned points for singles victories.
Tristanne Dechoux engineered a straight set victory at flight three.
Kateryna Kalistratova also won her match in straight sets at flight four. Both players are 2-1 in singles to begin the year for the Privateers.
In 11 combined doubles matches this season the Privateers have gone 6-5. Dechoux and
Anastassia Kouchnareva combined for a 3-0 mark.
Laurie Barendse and
Ksenia Reznitskaya combined for a 2-0 record against doubles competition this season.
New Orleans is in the midst of a home stretch that lasts through Mar. 15. The Privateers will also play a pair of non-conference opponents in SIU-Edwardsville and Missouri State.
McNeese is out to an 11-1 start this season. Anastasija Adeikyte is 10-0 in singles while playing across the top four flights. Emma-Lou Pommiers is 9-1 this season and has also garnered wins at flights one through four. As a team McNeese is 48-9 in singles and 22-6 in doubles.
Lamar (6-3) is coming off a 4-0 sweep against Southern Miss on Feb. 25. Natalia Turczuk is undefeated in singles at 7-0 while playing mostly at flight five. Marika Mueller has been tough to beat at flight two with a 5-1 record at that spot.
