New Orleans Faces First Ranked Opponent in #20 Tampa Amongst Others at Sugar Beach Bash

YOUNGSVILLE, La. - The University of New Orleans beach volleyball team will face their first ranked opponent of the season in #20 Tampa as part of a four-match weekend at the Sugar Beach Bash Friday-Saturday. New Orleans will kickoff the tournament with a crucial match against Southland opponent HCU at 11 a.m. before facing Southern Mississippi at 5 p.m. New Orleans will take on Tampa at noon on Saturday followed by UAB at 4 p.m. The match against Tampa will be live streamed on www.varsitysportsnow.com/browse.  

New Orleans is coming off a 5-0 victory and a 2-2 outing at the Wheeler Beach Bash with wins over EKU and Tennessee Tech. At 8-3, junior Serena Baumgart and freshman Anne Marie Hardouin boast an 8-3 record on the season from court three after a team-best finish last time out. The pair also secured the lone point against SEC power South Carolina. 

HCU's Kristen Kleymeyer and Abbey Bufkin earned a 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) win over the 20th-ranked Spartans. Their duo of Rachel Heilbrun and Tatum Lockhardt also earned a win over Coastal Carolina as the team's No. 4 pair.

Southern Miss looks to shake back after falling in two matches to close out the 2024 Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State. Southern Miss fell to Santa Clara and finished the competition with a loss to No. 11 Cal Poly. They currently have a record of 4-8.

Tampa has a record of 7-7 after splitting its four duals last weekend that featured HCU, defeating the Huskies and Coastal Carolina but losing to fourth-ranked Florida State and Florida Gulf Coast.

UAB comes off a 5-0 loss to No. 5 TCU and a 5-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin in Fort Worth at the Horned Frog Challenge. The Blazers finished the tournament at 2-2 overall and are now 7-5 on the season.
