Privateer Beach Volleyball Set to Host Southland Mid-Conference Tournament

NEW ORLEANS -The New Orleans Beach Volleyball team will welcome seven Southland Conference members to Privateer Beach for the mid-conference tournament on March 22-24. All eight teams will compete for a regular season title.

The Privateers will start the tournament Friday against Southeastern at 10:30 a.m. and finish off with Boise State at 5 p.m.

New Orleans comes off a weekend in Youngsville, Louisiana, where they went 1-3 at the Sugar Beach Bash. The Privateers defeated Southern Miss and dropped close matches to HCU, UAB, and #20 Tampa.

Senior Bria Gorman and sophomore Maria Ozaeta boast the best pair record on the team with 10 wins and only 3 losses at court two and one.

On Saturday, the Sandy Teers will face Nicholls at 10:30 a.m. and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 5 p.m. The Sandy Teers will face San Jose State at 8 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend against McNeese at 4 p.m. Following the final match New Orleans Athletics will honor four Privateer seniors in Bria Garmon, Rita Zecchin, Hannah Volpi and Serena Baumgart.

SLU sits at 6-7 on the season after a 0-4 showing at the Sugar Beach Bash. Juniors Andrea Da Silva and Rachel Hartmann finished a team-best 3-1 with their only loss coming from Boise State at court one. Boise is 14-7 on the season after a 3-1 showing in Youngsville with their only loss coming from South Carolina after a win over Tampa. The Broncos have had three pairs named SLC pair of the week over the last three weeks. Sierra Land and Marlayna Bullington were named the most recent SLC POTW after going 4-0 on the weekend, defeating the top pairs from No. 20 Tampa and Tulane, and the number one pair from South Carolina and Southeastern Louisiana. Nicholls is 6-12 after dropping its last four matches at the ULM Bayou Bash. Corpus Christi is 13-4 after a 3-1 showing including a 1-4 loss to #3 Stanford. With a 6-7 overall record, SJSU recorded two losses at home last weekend to Corpus Christi and Utah before recording its only win over Sacramento State. In their inaugural season, McNeese is 2-13 with their wins coming over Nicholls and Tarleton State.
