Privateer Golf Heads to Riverhill Country Club for The Big Texan

NEW ORLEANS – For the fifth year in a row the University of New Orleans golf team will participate in The Big Texan hosted by UTRGV on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Like last year, this year's edition returns to Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, Texas.
 
Kyle Bennett, Ryan Fulton, Mason Roberts, and Maximilian Wojciechowski all have experience at Riverhill Country Club with all four playing in last season's Big Texan. Fulton led the way for the Privateers and sat in first place after the opening two rounds before finishing tied for fifth with a score of 214. The Crawley native's opening round of 66 was the best of his college career and included a stretch of six birdies in seven holes.
 
Roberts shot a 226, Bennett shot a 227, and Wojciechowski shot a 228 to finish tied for 37^th, 42^nd, and 47^th respectively in last season's tournament.
 
New Orleans enters their second tournament of the spring with a 55-34-1 (.616) record, including an impressive 20-4 record against Southland competition this season. UNO as a team has finished 11 rounds under par out of 21 total rounds this season – the most since the 2007-2008 squad set the school record with 11.
 
Individually Bennett leads the team with 13 rounds under par, while Fulton and Wojciechowski have seven each so far this season. Combined UNO golfers have 39 individual rounds of golf below par in 2023-2024.
 
FORMAT
The teams will play 36 holes of golf on Monday with another 18 on Tuesday morning. Bennett will tee off at 7:52 a.m., Gabriel Gallego at 7:59 a.m., Roberts at 8:06 a.m., Matt Weber at 8:13 a.m., and Fulton at 8:20 a.m. New Orleans is paired with Weber State and Ranger College for the opening two rounds.
 
The following other schools are confirmed to compete in the event: UTRGV (hosts), Abilene Christian, HCU, Midland Junior College, New Mexico Junior College, Ranger College, Seton Hall, Southeastern, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, Texas A&M Commerce, UIW, Weber State, and Western Illinois.

Kyle Bennett finished tied for third, and New Orleans shot a 4-under-par 860 placing them in seventh after three rounds of golf at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational. New Orleans second round score of 282 was the 11^th round under par as a team so far this season – matching the 2007-2008 team for the most in a single season in school history.

LAST TIME AT THE BIG TEXAN
The University of New Orleans Golf team moved up three spots on the final day of the 2023 Big Texan to finish in fifth place with a final scorecard of 884. Junior golf Ryan Fulton – who came into the final round in first place – paced the Privateers with a score of 214, tying him for fifth. Fulton's first round score of 66 matched several former Privateers for the fifth best single round score in program history.
