Privateers Tie for Fifth at the Big Texan

FINAL RESULTS (GolfStat)

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans golf team finished in a three-way tie for fifth place on Tuesday afternoon at the Big Texan. The Privateers compiled rounds of 288, 304, and 290 for a score of 882 at Riverhill Country Club, two strokes better than their first attempt at the course last season.

Ryan Fulton finished tied for 16th after shooting 218. Fulton shot a 69 during the opening round, which included a stretch of four birdies in his final six holes. The UNO veteran made 11 birdies and 32 pars during his time on the course.

Matt Weber finished tied for 27th with a score of 221. The midseason transfer made nine birdies, and 34 pars. Like Fulton he also sank four birdies on his final six holes during the opening round.

Rounding out the scores for New Orleans were Kyle Bennett who shot a 222 – a two stroke improvement on his efforts at Riverhill Country Club last season, Mason Roberts shot a 225 – shaving a stroke off his effort at last year's Big Texan, Gabirel Gallego who shot a 226, and Canon Clark who shot a 230 playing as an independent.

New Orleans finished second in pars made as a team with 169 behind Midland College's 173, and made 44 birdies – good for fifth among the field.

Future Southland Conference foe UTRGV won their home event with a score of 854, 10-under-par. The individual champion was Javier Neira of the Vaqueros who finished with an 11-under-par total of 205.

New Orleans finishes up their regular season on April 8-9 at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate in Kinder, Louisiana. Coverage information, including live scoring, will be made available closer to the event.
