SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team off a strong finish to the regular season, will begin their conference tournament journey on Friday against the UIW Cardinals. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
New Orleans finished the year with a five-match winning streak. Four of those came against conference foes and the Privateers finished tied with McNeese for the second-best record among all Southland teams.
Laurie Barendse, Ksenia Reznistkaya and
Anastassia Kouchnareva all earned All-Southland recognition on Wednesday for their seasons. Barendse was 10-2 overall in singles and 6-1 in conference. Barendese and Reznitskaya combined to go 10-1 overall and 6-1 against conference foes. Kouchnareva was 5-2 in singles against Southland opponents.
New Orleans defeated UIW in late March on the road by the score of 5-2. The Cardinals won the doubles point to begin the day but the Privateers came back with a strong performance across the board in singles.
Barendse and Kouchnareva both won three-set matches against their opponents. Reznitskaya,
Tristanne Dechoux and
Audelia Morin Kougoucheff all won their singles matches in straight sets. Reznitskaya and Kougoucheff combined to lose just six games across four sets.
New Orleans and UIW matched up in the opening round of the Southland Tournament in 2022 and the Privateers swept the Cardinals 4-0.
UIW finished 8-11 overall and 4-3 in conference. They finished the regular season on a high note with a pair of 5-2 wins against Lamar and McNeese. Four Cardinals earned All-Southland recognition. Sofia Franco Salcedo and Isid Hernandez Leon earned a spot at flight one doubles. Estefania Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht got an all-conference nod at flight two doubles. Hernandez also got All-Southland honors at flight three singles.
