DAY ONE RESULTS
KERRVILLE – The University of New Orleans golf team got off to a solid start in the 2024 Southland Championship shooting a 4-over-par 292 on their way to fourth place at the end of Monday's opening round.
Playing a rare 18-hole Monday split between the Hills and Valley courses at Comanche Trace the Privateers were led by junior
Kyle Bennett and senior
Thomas Artigas during the opening round.
Both Bennett and Artigas finished at even par (72). The pair are tied for eighth place overall along with Carl Hardin of Lamar, and Patrick Galleher of Bryant.
After a 3-over-par start on the front nine, Bennett made birdies on 12, 15 and a long one on 18 to finish strongly headed into round two on Tuesday. Artigas made five birdies – two on the front nine and three on the back nine. His five birdies are tied with teammate
Ryan Fulton for the most in the field through 18 holes.
Fulton and
Matt Weber also placed in the top-15 on Monday afternoon with rounds of 74. Ryan got off to a hot start with three birdies through his first eight holes and a 2-under-par front nine. Weber had birdies on holes four and 12 on Monday.
New Orleans' score of 292 was their second lowest opening round score in a Southland Championship tournament, just two strokes off last year's 290 at Hill Country Golf Club. The Privateers' 18 birdies also were the most among the field.
Round two begins for the Privateers at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow when
Mason Roberts tees off. New Orleans will be paired with Bryant University and UIW on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat, with updates available on @PrivateersGolf on

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests. Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win. Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play, and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day. Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
