NEW ORLEANS – Cape Town native
Matthew Lotz was named Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for September by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Lotz earned the honor after averaging 70.16 over six rounds in September. The junior had 54-hole scores of 211 at the Grover Page Classic, and 210 at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic. Both were new personal bests. Five of Lotz' six rounds in October were at par or better, including two below par. He has made 22 birdies and has individual rounds of 69 and 67 so far in his time at UNO.
He joins Brady Bennett, who won the award twice in his career, as the only Privateer golfers to be named Southland Golfer of the Month. Kenji Muryama was also named Sun Belt Golfer of the Month in March of 2006.
HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"I couldn't be happier for Matt. It's been awesome to see him come in and adjust to a new city, team, and school with ease. His attitude has been outstanding from day one as he is constantly looking for ways not only to improve his game but that of his teammates. He is a prince of a kid and is deserving of this honor. I am lucky to have a front row seat to watch him progress the next two years."
