Women's Tennis to Host Troy in Saturday Morning Battle

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (2-0) continues their home start to the season against Troy. The match time has been moved up and will now be played at 10 a.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Privateers are coming off their most recent match, a 4-2 victory against Southern Miss on Saturday, Feb. 8. Nouray Khaled secured the win for New Orleans by winning a third set tiebreaker over her opponent, Sakura Sudo.

A young Privateers squad has already yielded strong returns, particularly in singles. Through two matches, New Orleans is 10-1 in their singles matches. Khaled, Anastassia Kouchnareva, Fleur Sprengers and Iris Danne have all won their first two singles matches this spring.

Currently, the Privateers are in the midst of a 10-match home stretch to start the season. The women will not travel outside of New Orleans until Mar. 19. Dating back to 2020, the Privateers are 34-13 at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Danne has been particularly efficient in her matches. The true freshman has only lost six games in four sets of singles play this year while playing at flight five.

Saturday will mark the renewal of an old Sun Belt matchup when the Privateers and Trojans face off. The last time the two teams met was in 2019, a match that Troy won 5-2. The last Privateer win against the Trojans was in 2017.

Troy is 2-3 to start the spring season. Their wins have come against Florida A&M and Alabama State. Their losses were to Kennesaw State, North Alabama and Mercer. Valeriia Avdeeva is 4-1 this spring and 12-3 overall including fall tournaments while playing mostly at flight four. The Trojans as a team are 9-4 in doubles matches this spring.
