NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will take the trip to Tennessee as they face the Memphis Tigers on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Privateers (3-1) are coming off a 2-0 week that included wins against Xavier (La.) and Southern Miss. New Orleans won the doubles point to set the tone in both of those matches and as a group, the Privateers are 7-3 in doubles matches this season.
Matthew Armbruster, who was honorable mention for Southland Player of the Week honors last week, was 4-0 between singles and doubles. Armbruster through the first four matches this season has gone 5-2 between singles and doubles. He has been paired with
Sep de Visser at flight one in doubles.
The men's team has combined for an 11-4 record in singles thus far on the spring season.
Marc Mail is 2-0 in his matches at flight two. Also, de Visser has two wins on the year, both at flight five. New Orleans' doubles tandem of
Joseph Townes and
Jay Temming sports a 3-0 record.
This will be the first time in over 20 years the Privateers and Tigers will do battle on the tennis court. The last meeting was back in 2004, which resulted in a win for Memphis.
Memphis broke a four-match losing streak in their last match when they swept Jackson State 4-0. The Tigers have already played three nationally ranked schools in Wake Forest, Mississippi State and Kentucky. Memphis took #8 Kentucky to the wire, losing 4-3.
