NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will host a pair of matches on Thursday and Saturday in non-conference play. A match against Rhode Island (Thursday) will be followed by a home bout versus UTEP (Saturday). The matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 10 a.m. respectively
The Privateers last played on Monday when they lost 5-2 to Tulane.
Fleur Sprengers and
Nouray Khaled picked up points after winning singles matches against the Green Wave.
New Orleans enters another home heavy stretch with five of their next six matches at the Privateer Tennis Center. The only scheduled road match in that span is at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Mar. 19.
Khaled has been in six matches that have gone three sets and each of her last two have gone to 10-point tiebreaks. Khaled has won three matches in three sets against Southern Miss, Jackson State and Tulane.
In doubles, Sprengers and
Kateryna Kalistratova lead the way in wins as a pair with three. The duo are 3-1 in flight two matches this season.
New Orleans last played Rhode Island in 2017 and won 4-1. The Privateers played UTEP most recently in 2010 and lost 5-2. They defeated the Miners 4-2 in 2004.
The home stretch also includes the start of conference play against UTRGV, Texas A&M-CC and Nicholls from Mar. 22-27.
