NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Beach Volleyball team faced challenging opponents and finished their weekend with an unfortunate 0-6 result at the SLC Mid-Conference.
Day 2 was similar in result to Day 1. Against Texas A&M-CC and HCU, New Orleans fell on all five courts. The Privateers' lineup stayed consistent throughout the weekend.
Day 3 saw New Orleans's best results of the weekend. Despite still falling in both matches, the Privateers were able to find a court 4 victory against SFA and a court 1 victory against McNeese. In addition to their competition, the team also had to contend with strong winds ahead of a storm that was rolling in throughout the day.
Ashley Salazar and
Jaedyn Newman sealed their court victory against SFA in two sets. In preparation for their second match of the day against McNeese, the team was reminded that it would be different from when they last clashed with the Cowgirls at the Cowgirl Beach Bash due to lineup changes from both teams. The New Orleans shift on court 1 resulted in a Privateer victory on the board.
Nikelle Lander and
Ivana de Carvalho Peixe staged a stellar comeback from a first-set loss. Their momentum came from their determined attitude after every point. De Carvalho Peixe was especially dominant at the net, and Lander serviced difficult balls while verbally sustaining their growing momentum. By the third set, the momentum was all theirs, and the pair clinched the match with a 15-4 third set.
The biggest takeaway for the team this weekend was recognizing that they were controlling what they could throughout all their matches, even if the results were not ideal. They have the foundation. Now it's about finding their unique way to finish points, sets, and eventually full matches.
