NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans golf team had a rough start in the opening round but improved over the final 36 holes to finish ninth at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Matt Weber's even-par third round moved the senior 11 spots up the individual leaderboard on Wednesday afternoon. Weber birdied holes 2, 8, 10 and 18, leading UNO with four birdies in the round. He finished with eight birdies in the tournament and tied for 33rd overall.
Tom Watson tied for 40th after back-to-back rounds of 72 to close out the tournament. The Liverpudlian finished third in the field with 39 pars in 54 holes. Watson also had four birdies in Mobile.
Taylor Boasberg had UNO's only under-par round, shooting a 70 in the second round. He led UNO with nine birdies, including four in five holes during the second round.
The Privateers finished the par-71 course with a score of 887 after rounds of 301, 292 and 294. UNO had 34 birdies (eighth in the field) and 163 pars (fifth in the field).
The New Orleans golf team will host the Bayou Oaks Match Play on April 8 at City Park. The team will play two matches that Tuesday, hosting Loyola (La.), Nicholls and ULM.
