NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Beach Volleyball team traveled to Thibodaux today for two matches against Spring Hill and Mobile at the Nicholls's Beach Bayou Bash. They lost in their rematch to Spring Hill but were victorious in a 3-2 battle with Mobile, ending their extensive losing streak.
Despite the 5-0 loss, New Orleans saw distinct moments of determination in their matches against Spring Hill.
Ashley Salazar and
Jaedyn Newman had a standout performance on Court 4, where they forced the Badgers to win the second set in 31 points! They pressed Spring Hill with a calculated offense and gritty defense. The team took away from the match a reminder of their mindset. They did not hope their opponent would lose. Instead, they did whatever they could to try and win, forcing their opponent to do the same. This mentality served them well for the second match of the day.
Against Mobile, New Orleans began to fire on all cylinders. Their serves were difficult to manage, their kills were decisive, and their tips were smart and deceptive. The wind picked up during the match, which meant another element to factor in and lean into. Court 1, Court 2, and Court 4 all won in particularly dominant fashion. Salazar and Newman brought their fighting mentality back to only let their opponent reach 13 points and 15 points, respectively.
Tristin Smith and
Grace Hinchman kept complete control of Court 2's pacing, sealing the win with a 21-9 second set. Once again, an opponent would not want to be on the receiving end of
Nikelle Lander's serves on Court 1 as they were particularly challenging to handle with the wind as an added element. To accompany Lander,
Ivana de Carvalho Peixe completely controlled the net and finished off some beautiful points in the process. This win breaks a 16-game losing streak for the Privateers, and it is a hopeful point of momentum at this point in the season.

New Orleans will host the Pontchartrain Beach Bash on Saturday, April 5, where they will face Nicholls and ULM. The day before their home event, they will travel to Hattiesburg, MS to compete against Southern Mississippi and Spring Hill (for the third time) at the Hub City Beach Bash.
